For dessert, we shared a large portion of Bananas Foster bread pudding served over banana creme brulee and finished with praline sauce and a large slice of key lime pie. With a side of Southern-style mac and cheese. I recently have become a fan of redfish so my choice was Blackened Redfish Etouffee, fresh Gulf redfish served blackened and set over white rice and topped with Maple Tree Inn's crawfish Etouffee and served with smothered green beans. With garlic mashed potatoes and green beans on the side. For an entree, my wife chose pan seared Gulf Fish Ponchartrain topped with lump crabmeat, mushrooms and roasted fennel and brie cream sauce paired with corn maque choux. My wife and I started with bowls of seafood gumbo with okra, tomatoes, shrimp, clams, mussels, crawfish, crab and calamari, hickory buttered BBQ shrimp and house-made cast iron cornbread with lagniappe and cinnamon honey butter. It's a new location, of course, but the delicious Cajun/Creole cuisine has allowed the restaurant to retain its reputation as "one of the best 50 southern restaurants in America." How about that gumbo, crawfish etouffee, fried catfish and beignets? Open from 5 to 9 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 2 to 9 on Saturday and Sunday, Maple Tree Inn is a La Brasserie in the best traditions of New Orleans. at 18849 Dixie Highway in south suburban Homewood, a block north of Idlewild Country Club, at Vardon Lane. After it was destroyed by fire in 2018, it resided in a temporary location for one year, then moved to its current address. It opened in 1975 on Olde Western Avenue. Maple Tree Inn once was a staple in south suburban Blue Island, my hometown. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is casual but makes you feel like its a special outing. They had forgotten our oysters when bringing out the other appetizers so they comped us for them. We ended the meal with bread puddling which I wasn't too fond of - a little too sweet for my taste, but overall the meal was very good, and I'd definitely go back. Most of my party had the catfish which they said was very good, I had the redfish with etouffee - definitely lots of spice. We were really looking for oysters like those at Acme in NOLA, but these were as close to them here in the Chicago area that we have found. Next we had the fried tomatoes and baked oysters. spice for my taste (but still very tasty). Started with the gumbo, which was good, but could have had a little more. The menu reminds me of cuisine I've enjoyed in New Orleans, LA. MoreĪ friend told me about this restaurant, so decided to go here for my birthday with hubby and friends. Please, by all means, find and go to this fine place. The BANANAS FOSTER BREAD PUDDING was, simply, sublime the BEIGNETS are significantly better than any I've ever had. I'd saved we saved enough room for desert.thank god. The chef has created a dish with a marvelous flavor palate and one can taste all those flavors. Well, all I can say is that this dish is transcendent. We started out with crawdad corn chowder and Oysters Bienville (amazing)' then the main courses: the CHICKEN, SAUSAGE AND SEAFOOD JAMBALAYA was simply amazing: hearty, well spiced, delicious. First, let me start off by saying that Ozzie, our server was professional, polite, knowledgeable caring and, had absolutely perfect timing. lunch (it IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to make reservations). Good, not amazing.įor our mains we got Oysters Bienville (fried oysters). My mom changed her order to the crab cake. It would have been way too spicy for her. He and I tried it and it was a bit spicy, so we cancelled her order. The waiter was very nice, but we told him that my mom can't have anything spicy. We tried several items and tried everyone's food.
